VIRTUAL FABRIC COLLAGE WORKSHOP

This class is now available as a google drive video link you will be sent to your email after purchase. This link is yours permanently and 2 hours long.

I have been working with textile remnants to create new garments for five plus years in my own studio practice. The beginning of this pursuit was driven by creative curiosity. It has now evolved into a practice which speaks to my environmental concerns, the negative impacts of the fast fashion industry, and the creation of one-of-a-kind garments—something which is lacking in the world today.

This workshop will involve the creation of fabric collages onto garments using hand sewing. I will demonstrate the ways in which I approach textiles in a collage practice both creatively and functionally. This workshop is a great way to breathe new life into garments which have been set aside because of stains, holes, and changing styles.

Topics covered in demos will include very basic hand sewing (all levels encouraged), identifying a variety of weaves, types of stitches both visible and not, composition, color and texture as related to final outcome.

Students will need to provide a garment or soft object they wish to create their collage, remnants to play with and some basic sewing supplies. As we are in a time where you may not have access to the ideal options there are many non-traditional tools we can use in our homes, too.

I will have the following tools and materials on hand, if you decide you would like to follow along with me:
SUPPLIES
1. An old garment for breathing new life into with collage.
2. A selection of pre-washed found / discarded / up-cycled textiles for collaging with.  Could be clothing, linens, etc.
3. A selection of threads including embroidery floss.
4. Embroidery hoop is helpful, but not necessary
5. A few hand sewing needles - I prefer long thin needles - however this is truly a "use what you have right now".  Honestly, a stapler could work!
6. Pins, maybe two dozen. Safety pins work too!
7. A pincushion.
8. A pair of fabric scissors and paper scissors.
9. An iron and something to iron on - I am using a bath towel on my kitchen table at home right now.
10. Loose leaf paper and pencil for making small patterns.

11. Random objects to trace around for shapes, like bottles, stones, ect.
12. Ruler

ALL SALES FINAL.
