Obstacle Course // July 2020

OBSTACLE COURSE this month is made possible thanks in part to my Yeiser Art Center Artist Residency and funded by the National Endowment for the Arts.

As opposed to offering another class that meets regularly via zoom I have designed this course/challenge to encourage participants to work independently within boundaries I have created. Many of us are zoomed out and would also like to stay creative and motivated and would rather not look at a screen for two hours.

OBSTACLE COURSE is designed to inspire participants to flex their inventiveness and creative dexterity, Obstacle Course is a three week-long sewing-based challenge overseen by Hadley Clark during her virtual residency at Yeiser Art Center in Paducah, KY and funded by The National Endowment for the Arts.  Employing a limited selection of materials and processes, participants will work individually and in a onetime scheduled consultation with Clark to create a sewn vessel designed to hold a specific thing of the participant’s choosing (ex. water, a body part, a meal, a sacred object, a plant, etc). This challenge is also meant for you to use items you already have in your home to transform into something new therefore I encourage all participants not to purchase anything new unless it is absolutely necessary. Obstacle Course will conclude with a virtual show and tell discussion on Zoom between Clark and all the participants on Thursday, July 30th at 7pm CST.

 Timeline:

July 10th                       Deadline for registering for Obstacle Course *Upon registering participants will receive the list of materials / processes to be used and can begin their project immediately.

July 11th                      All registered participants will be sent a google document link to sign up for their 20 minute Zoom  consultation with Clark.  Meetings will begin Monday, July 13th.

July 13th-24th              Individual Consultations will take place.

July 30th 7pm CST     Obstacle Course ends with an all-participant Zoom discussion. This will be a time for each artist to share what object they have created only employing what is allowed.
