One evening of every month (5:00 -8:00pm) this year I will share my shop space to all individuals in need of mending/repairing any of their garments in need of a fix. I will be on hand to assist anyone who has questions about their pieces but I will also be mending my own garments. This is not an instructional evening but a time to gather and mend our wears. This is also an evening to deepen our relationship with our clothing as well as to think of our garments, not as trash but as an investment. A perk of this process is that we can finally bring those pieces in the back of our closest to the front by repairing them!!
This is an actionable stance against fast fashion and the unethical treatment of humans and the destruction of our environment. The fashion industry is the 2nd dirtiest industry in the world, next to big oil <--- and we can each work to change this.
*****This is FREE and open to EVERYONE****
*You should bring your clothing in need of repair, all notions needed: scissors, thread, handsewing needles, etc. I will provide seating, music, guidance if needed and support.*
*Since 2014 my work has focused on using textiles that are soiled, stained and discarded to create new work. The other part of this thought has been to highlight these imperfections by mimicking the Japanese art of Kintsugi. This is the process of repairing broken pottery with powdered gold. The philosophy is to treat breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise. I use gold thread to repair these blemishes and to highlight their journey and you can too!
